What Does a Course Involve?
Our guitar building courses are a journey through craftsmanship, offering you a holistic experience and guiding you through every facet of guitar building. From conceptualising your design and selecting the perfect wood to mastering the use of specialised tools like Bandsaws and Routers, we cover it all. And, the end result? A custom-made, high-quality guitar that you can proudly call your own for years to come.
Who is the Tutor?
Our courses offer expert-led tuition provided by John Ambler, a seasoned luthier and the mastermind behind Ambler Custom Guitars. With years of experience in crafting guitars of various shapes and sizes, John provides invaluable insights and hands-on guidance throughout the course. His expertise ensures that you not only learn the techniques but also the artistry involved in guitar making too.
Do You Provide Any Materials?
We provide all the essential materials you’ll need to construct your electric guitar. This includes a Mahogany body blank, Maple neck blank, choice of fingerboard blanks, truss-rod, fretwire, nut blank, volume & tone pot, cap, 3-way switch and jack socket. All you need to bring is your chosen hardware – pickups, bridge, tuners, and control knobs. And if you’re unsure about these, we’re more than happy to offer advice.
Who Can Take a Course?
We understand that every aspiring luthier is unique, which is why our courses are adaptable to suit individuals of all skill levels – from complete novices to those looking to advance their abilities. Ultimately, our courses can be tailored to your level and requirements.
How Big is a Class?
We promise small class sizes and personalised attention. This is to ensure that you receive the focused attention you deserve. We limit each course to a maximum of three students. This intimate setting allows for a more personalised and enriching learning experience.
When do Courses Take Place?
We offer flexible scheduling, with two types of courses to fit your schedule. You can choose from a 6-day consecutive course or our ‘Weekender’ option, which spans two consecutive weekends (Friday to Sunday). As our courses are in high demand, it’s advisable to book your slot well in advance.
Where are Courses Based?
