This set is 7.7mm thick.
Buckeye Burl Guitar & Bass bookmatched top set – this stuff is insanely rare, very difficult to re-saw but absolutely worth the effort! Absolutely amazing material.
Recommended for more advanced Luthiers. Buckeye always has large bark incursions and voids to deal with! It’s all part of the fun with this amazing wood, but can require extra work during use. Please study images closely.
For those that don’t know, Buckeye burl is a root system that grows below ground in the USA.
Its rare, very difficult to dig up, to dry AND to cut, hence why its expensive material! Cutting the Buckeye billets completely ruins bandsaw blades due to small stones being caught up inside the root system – if we usually get to cut 20 sets of maple per bandsaw blade, cutting Buckeye we have to change the blade for every 3 cuts!
Please view all photographs carefully to see voids and bark incursions. All Buckeye sets have been left as large as possible, in order for the buyer to reposition and joint as desired. The jointed edges could be arranged as pictured, or from the outside edges towards the center. Whichever way would fit the desired instrument template the best.
Please view measuring tapes down the side and bottom edge of the photography board. The guitar template drawn on in crayon to help give an idea of size. These Buckeye sets have been photographed both dry and sprayed with Naphtha, to help show the true colour and figure. Naphtha doesn’t harm the wood in any way, doesn’t cause it to swell or warp and evaporates within seconds of being sprayed on.
