All wood sets should be stored carefully, away from heat sources or direct sunlight and in a dry environment.
Please remember to ‘Sticker’ your sets and add a weighted board on top if not being used right away (it is still recommended that new stock is given time to settle and acclimatise before use). ‘Stickering’ or ‘On Stick’ is a term used for the practice of storing boards and thin wood stock to ensure even air flow around the entire board.
You will need a number of evenly dimensioned sticks (we use 9mm Plywood, cut into 9mm widths, long enough to run the full width of the piece). With these, lay 2 or 3 on a flat surface, evenly spaced apart no wider apart than the length of your stock. Next, lay the first piece of your book-matched set down onto them. Add another row of sticks, matching the position of the first row. repeat this with all your items. Finally, add one final layer of sticks across the top of the final piece, and then add a weighted board across the top to help keep your thin-stock flat.
This practise ensures even airflow around all faces and edges of your stock, allowing it to ‘breathe’ evenly. If thin stock is left laying on a flat surface, ‘warping’ or ‘cupping can occur as the air flow only affects the edges and one face side. This allows the moisture content to change at a different rate to the other face-down side, and can cause
