      • Black/White Limba Body BlanksBlack and White Limba (sometimes referred to as Korina – an “easier to market” name furnished on Limba by Gibson) is a tree native to tropical west Africa and is a relative newcomer to the western woodworking world (the most famous example of it’s use is probably Gibson’s 1950’s early Explorer and Flying V models) and as such never experienced the over harvesting that has made redwood and mahogany such sought after woods. The downside to this is that it is not uncommon to walk into a lumber yard, ask about Limba, and be met with a blank stare and a muttered “Never heard of it”. As with some of our other less common woods, this is a great shame as it is a great wood suitable for a range of applications. There are two main classifications of limba on the market today: black limba and white limba. There is no difference in the species, the distinction purely being between the colouring of the grain caused by different mineral deposits being absorbed. Black limba is similar to mahogany in weight, hardness and texture and has been used as a substitute by many luthiers and those who favour it’s more contrasting…

Quilted Maple, Flame Maple and more wood for guitar bodies and tops available. We often carry rare to find as quarter sawn cuts of these beautiful guitar tops and body blanks. The quarter sawn cut gives distinct growth ring patterns seen on these sets. These sets will look seriously beautiful left natural, or they would be absolutely perfect to use as a canvas for colour staining. When these tops are lacquered, or stained and lacquered then they will really come to life and the quilted figuring will take on that really sought-after holographic effect. We carry maple in all colours, from white all the way through, to slabs and blanks with darker areas on the wood for a different effect. All of our Maple sets, body blanks and tops are fantastic quality materials, and will be perfect to use for high-end guitar and bass projects.
