Who We Are

John Ambler has dedicated the majority of his adult life to working with a diverse range of wood species.

His journey began as a skilled furniture and cabinet maker, but it wasn't long before he delved into the world of crafting electric guitars and basses in his spare time – a lifelong dream that originated during his school days. Over a span of six years, he meticulously honed this craft, creating guitars for himself and his friends.

Eventually, due to popular demand, he decided to officially launch Ambler Custom Guitars in 2016.

What We Do

During this time, John dedicated himself to sourcing the finest ethically-sourced timbers from around the globe and cultivating strong partnerships with sawmills worldwide.

Drawing on his expertise with wood and its aesthetic and practical potential, John introduced 'Luthier Wood' as a comprehensive destination for Luthiers, Wood Turners, and Axe/Knife makers. With a focus on exquisite and highly figured woods, Luthier Wood strives to meet all needs.

Even if a specific wood isn't featured on the website, Luthier Wood can arrange special orders to fulfil unique requirements and also provides a tailored cutting service.
